Regent Theatre
191 Collins Street, Melbourne, 3000.
The Regent Theatre is one of the most spectacular theatres in Melbourne. The Regent was closed for many years and fell into a state of disrepair until it was restored in the 1990's.
The Regent Theatre's spectacular animated neon sign is stylistically similar to the original, but with changes to the colour and some of the detailing. The current sign was erected in 1996, whilst the original was erected circa 1947.
The sign is of the vertical fin type, featuring a green crown at the top and vertical unprotected red neon spelling "REGENT" down the length of the sign, supported with a painted backdrop. The sign is stylistically similar to the nearby Her Majesty's Theatre sign.
The sign is in excellent condition, and is regularly illuminated.
