Summary:
  • Built between 1982-4.
  • Designed by Harry Seidler.
  • Not listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
Building Description:

In 1982, the City of Waverley (now City of Monash) commissioned high-profile architect Harry Seidler to design a new building to accomodate the municipality's council chambers, offices and council facilities including meeting and function rooms. His response was to design the outstanding Waverley Civic Centre building which is now known as the Monash Civic Centre.

The building is dominated by a massive porte-cochère. Inside, a large atrium provides access to the various building services and can also function as an exhibition space. Outside, the complex is surrounded by landscaped gardens.

The windows for the building are framed by large concrete fins which provide some passive cooling for the building in summer.
