Record Chambers
Summary:
  • Constructed in 1887.
  • Designed by J.A.B. Koch.
  • Listed on the Victorian Heritage Register (no. 600717).
Building Description:

The Record Chambers were built for McCarron, Bird & Co. who published a banking journal called The Record.

The Record Chambers is an important example of the use of the 'free classical' style in the boom period of the 1880's. The building's stone façade consists of several rows of classically-arched windows with cornices dividing the floors and pilasters providing horizontal decoration.

A sign in the front window of the Record Chambers now reads "Olderfleet Buildings" since it is next door to The Olderfleet and consists of part of the same development; a programme of restoration and high-rise construction behind the heritage buildings in the 1980's.
